Peers who engage him in a discussion about ed-tech are immediately swept up by his breathless enthusiasm for an area that is rapidly changing, even as it changes the field of higher education. That’s because John White, better known as JD, is nothing short of an ed-tech evangelist in today’s data-driven world. A key member of Campus Labs since 2008, he leads the project development team in the never-ending quest for better, more nimble solutions to the challenges campuses face. He is a frequent guest lecturer and facilitator on the local, regional, and national level. His areas of expertise include assessment in higher education, student success and retention efforts, the use of analytics in higher education, and the development of technology to support institutional effectiveness.
Before joining Campus Labs, JD managed assessment initiatives for the Department of University Housing at the University of Georgia. He has also had student affairs roles at Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Northern Arizona University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, as well as both a Master of Education in College Student Affairs Administration and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Georgia.
